Scouts and Scout Parents,
At a meeting on Saturday, January 9, 2010, Mr. Schenk and I were informed of the NEW BSA Health and Medical Record Requirements. The requirements are for everyone, YOUTH and ADULT. The form is a four page document which contains the following:

Page 1 is the Medical Information page, which includes the “Instructions”
Page 2 is part A, filled in by the parent/guardian, and is the “Health and Medical Record”
Page 3 is part B filled in by the doctor, and is the “Physical Examination”
Page 4 is part C, filled in by the parent/guardian, and is a hold harmless agreement, adult authorization/NOT authorization, and “signatures” You may use my name if you like on the authorization; (David M. Shields (Scoutmaster), 516 593-4254, (c) 516 662-7206)

Page 2 (A) and 4 (C) are required for all BSA members, for participation in all activities that do not exceed 72 hours, where the level of activity is similar to that normally expended at home or at school, such as day camp, day hikes, swimming parties, or an overnight camp, and where medical care is readily available.

Page 2 (B) is required with part A and C, for any event that exceeds 72 consecutive hours (Summer Camp), or when the nature of the activity is strenuous and demanding, such as a high-adventure trek. Service projects or work weekends may also fit this description.

http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/34605_Letter.pdf

I have included the link above to open the form. The form is user friendly and can be filled in online, and saved on your computer. Please fill our pages 2 (Part A) and 4 (Part C), print it out, as one page if you can, Part A on one side, Part C on the back, sign it and bring it to Mr. Shields or Mr. Schenk at the next troop meeting or soon afterward. Page 3 (Part B) will be needed in order to go to summer camp, and you can do that annually when you have your sons annual physical for school or summer camp, and is good for one calendar year. For the sake of convention, please date your form “January 1, 2010″, as we will need this to be done annually for each calendar year. We are sorry for any inconvenience, but this is the new BSA policy, and it is what it is.

1:00 PM Gather to catch bait with a saine. Bring bathing suit and water shoes for this. (Lotsa fun here)

2:00 – 4:00 PM Time to catch those Snappers. Of course you may fish for anything you want, but Snappers are what count. Tell me (Mr. Shields) when you catch one so I can count it.

Bring a lawn chair, a hat and drinking water. Some bring lunch, some bring BBQ grills. What every you and your family want to do.

Bring a snapper pole or light spinning rod and reel. You only need a snapper hook, some light line and a float to catch snappers. I use a bamboo pole. There is no cost and the whole family can join in.

LOCATION: Bait is gathered just south of the Boat Ramp in Bay Park. Fishing is on the bulkhead just north of the Boat Ramp.

In case of inclement weather, punt. It’s like football, the game goes on as long as it’s not a danger. See you there. David Shields, Scoutmaster

When will the license requirements become effective?

Beginning October 1, 2009, all anglers, required to do so, must have a recreational marine fishing license.

[Note: there is pending legislation that may delay the effective date of the implementation of the recreational marine fishing license until January 1, 2010.]

Also:

Are there any exemptions whereby I don’t need to purchase a recreational marine fishing license?

The following persons are exempt from the requirement to buy the new recreational marine fishing license: Legally blind persons, veterans who qualify for a permanent military-related disability, and members of the Armed Forces who qualify for a free license under New York’s Patriot Act.

Also, people fishing in the Marine and Coastal District on an appropriately NYSDEC- licensed charter boat or party boat do not need to have a recreational marine fishing license.

Who’s going to Hershey Park ? I only have 7 from the troop signed up so
far. (That’s seven total, including family members) And a total of 19
including extended families and friends. I have a little time left, so if your
thinking about it, let me know.

Here, again, are the details about the weekend of August 21, 22, 23. It
is a family camping weekend. You will need to bring your own tents, and
sleeping equipment. There are bathrooms, showers, there is a pool and a camp
store. The campground is Hershey’s High Meadow Campground and you can
either take your car from there to the park or catch the bus shuttle. At any
rate, parking is included in the cost, as long as it is not just one person
to a car. Everything else is mentioned in the attached flyer. If you need
any more details, call or e-mail me at pho: 593-4254, cell: 662-7206,
e-mail DMS59Dart@aol.com . Visit their website at
www.Hersheypark.com to see all the rides,
attractions, venues, and to get directions. I go out via the George
Washington Bridge, I 80 to I 81.

The cost is $ 103.00 per person ($ 98.00 for 3-7 and 55+), free for those
under 3. It is a rain or shine event, therefore, once the money is paid to
Hershey, they send me the tickets and there are no refunds. I am just to
coordinator. I pay the same as you do.

The fee includes the following:
2 nights of camping at Hershey High Meadow Campground
Breakfast on Saturday morning in the campground, Lunch at any of a number
of concession stands in the park on Saturday, Dinner is an All-You-Can-Eat
Buffet (Hamburgers, Hot Dawgs, Salads, Ice Cream, etc.) at one of the
catering pavilions in the park, and Breakfast on Sunday morning in the
campground.

The 3-D Show

The Factory tour

The Hershey Museum

Special evening admission to ZooAmerican in the park (only for those in

this program)

All day Saturday admission to the Park. Special Friday evening preview

admission to the Park

Parking on Friday evening and all day Saturday

Scout Weekend Patch (for everyone who pays)

Hershey Park has more Roller Coasters than any other park on the East
Coast. Hershey Park has a water park (bring bathing suits if you want, there
are change rooms and small lockers) You can use the bathing suits in the
pool at the campground on Friday afternoon.
You will need to provide your own transportation. You will need to
provide you own meals for Friday. We leave early from East Rockaway on Friday,
and get there about 2:00 PM, set up our camp, swim in the pool, then go to
dinner at any of a number of restaurants near the park, then go into the
park in the evening until closing. Saturday is breakfast, 3-D show, factory
tour, then the museum if you wish (this is new). The park opens at 10:00am
until I believe 10:00pm.

Scouts and Scouter’s should wear their class “B” tee shirts, but this is
not a must. That way you can see where others are from and it might just be
easier to find your scouts in the crowd.

This weekend is family camping. You can bring your parents, grandparents,
sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends,
neighbors………anyone you like. They can be with you or go on their own. I am bringing 18
from my family alone. Please let me know if you are planning on attending.
Do not let me know after I send in the reservations as it will be too late.

The attached flyer repeats most everything. It is in MSWord format, and
in color too. I will need to pay Hershey before the end of June, therefore,
I will need the money pretty soon. If you pay me by check, I will need to
have that earlier as it must clear before I pay them.
