Fishing

Author: psychcf

I had a good time fishing. Sorry that catching the bait turned out to be the most fun. Next year we will do the same, but instead of fishing just north of the boat ramp, maybe we will go to the fishing pier next to Doc’s Place in East Rockaway. (In the area of the ER Post Office.) I hope the rest of you enjoyed the time fishing together. Congratulations to everyone who caught a fluke. This year there were more fluke then snappers. Dave Shields, Scoutmaster

Just a reminder that the troops annual Snapper Fishing Tournament will be held this Sunday in Bay Park.
1:00 PM    Gather to catch bait with a saine.  Bring bathing suit and water shoes for this.  (Lotsa fun here)
2:00 – 4:00 PM    Time to catch those Snappers.  Of course you may fish for anything you want, but Snappers are what count.  Tell me (Mr. Shields) when you catch one so I can count it.
Bring a lawn chair, a hat and drinking water.  Some bring lunch, some bring BBQ grills.  What every you and your family want to do.
Bring a snapper pole or light spinning rod and reel.  You only need a snapper hook, some light line and a float to catch snappers.  I use a bamboo pole.  There is no cost and the whole family can join in.
LOCATION: Bait is gathered just south of the Boat Ramp in Bay Park.  Fishing is on the bulkhead just north of the Boat Ramp.
In case of inclement weather, punt.  It’s like football, the game goes on as long as it’s not a danger.  See you there.   David Shields, Scoutmaster

Note!  This was just found under NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation web-site:

When will the license requirements become effective?

Beginning October 1, 2009, all anglers, required to do so, must have a recreational marine fishing license.

[Note: there is pending legislation that may delay the effective date of the implementation of the recreational marine fishing license until January 1, 2010.]

Also:

Are there any exemptions whereby I don’t need to purchase a recreational marine fishing license?

The following persons are exempt from the requirement to buy the new recreational marine fishing license: Legally blind persons, veterans who qualify for a permanent military-related disability, and members of the Armed Forces who qualify for a free license under New York’s Patriot Act.

Also, people fishing in the Marine and Coastal District on an appropriately NYSDEC- licensed charter boat or party boat do not need to have a recreational marine fishing license.
