Why join Scouts?
The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America is to provide a program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness.
Scouting makes a difference by preparing youth for success as they grow. Scouts are the kind of people you want to hang around with, and want to be like.
Being involved in Scouting for even a couple of years has a positive influence on the choices you make and the confidence you feel. And if you are one of the 2.5 percent of Scouts who achieves his Eagle rank, you will join such dignitaries as former President Gerald Ford, astronauts Neil Armstrong andJim Lovell, Steven Spielberg, and a host of others.

Your Troop
The basic unit in Boy Scouts is the troop. A number of adults offer their help to the troop including a Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters, and various troop committee members. But the Scouts themselves are in charge of the troop, lead by the Senior Patrol Leader and various assistants. The idea is to help Scouts learn what it takes to be strong, responsible leaders, and that comes from leading. Troops are further divided into Patrols, each with its own leadership and responsibility.
Outdoor Programs
Boy Scouting is designed to take place outdoors. It is in the outdoor setting that Scouts share responsibilities and learn to operate as a group. In the outdoors the skills and activities practiced at troop meetings come alive with purpose. Being close to nature helps Boy Scouts gain an appreciation for the beauty of the world around us. The outdoors is the laboratory in which Boy Scouts learn ecology and practice conservation of nature’s resources.
Ranks
There are six ranks in Boy Scouts: Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and Eagle. Each rank represents a higher level of knowledge, achievement, and leadership.
